Personal Leadership Action Plan
Essential Questions:
-
How can the leader support teacher effectiveness to improve student achievement-They need to support the teachers in areas of technology, staff development, and areas of teachers needs. They need to provide tools in which will support the teachers to be successful.
-
What is a 21st Century school/district/teacher/administrator? As I think about the things I learned in this class, technology would be integrated into instruction, standards, and curriculum. It would support student learning, and teacher instruction to achieve student success.
Your Next Steps
Identify “next steps” that you want to take in each of the six identified educational leader standards and the three strand areas to create your own personal action plan. Be sure to identify any resources you have identified during the session that you want to use or explore further. Use the template that follows this page.
Strand 1 – Basic Technology Skills and Applications
What skills, experience, and/or willingness can an administrator model in regards to using technology without having to be an “expert”?
NETS- A – III Productivity and Professional Practice
Educational leaders apply technology to enhance their professional practice and to increase their own productivity and that of others.
Strand 2 – Leadership Skills
How will you, as a leader and facilitator, help others focus on a vision that improves student achievement and facilitates continuous professional growth?
NETS A –I Leadership and Vision
Educational leaders inspire a shared vision for comprehensive integration of technology and foster an environment and culture conducive to the realization of that vision.
NETS A –II Learning and Teaching
Educational leaders ensure that curricular design, instructional strategies, and learning environments integrate appropriate technologies to maximize learning and teaching.
NETS A –IV Support, Management, and Operations
Educational leaders ensure the integration of technology to support productive systems for learning and administration.
NETS A –V Assessment and Evaluation
Educational leaders use technology to plan and implement comprehensive systems of effective assessment and evaluation
Strand 3 – Social, Legal and Ethical
What systems and resources do you need in place to ensure that available technologies support and enhance the learning environment?
NETSA -VI Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues
Educational leaders understand the social, legal, and ethical issues related to technology and model responsible decision-making related to these issues.
Strand 1 – Basic Technology Skills and Applications

III. Productivity and Professional Practice
Educational leaders apply technology to enhance their professional practice and to increase their own productivity and that of others.
Short Range: To demonstrate the use of technology during staff meetings and professional development training in order to model some of the possibilities available to teachers for their instruction.
Medium Range: To guide and support teachers to the many resources available as they begin to explore technology for the classrooms.
Long Range: To offer on going training in technology for teachers and allow time for them to use the resources leading to future integrated use of technology in the classroom.
Strand 2 –Leadership Skills
How will you, as a leader and facilitator, help others focus on a vision that improves student achievement and facilitates continuous professional growth?
I. Leadership and Vision
Educational leaders inspire a shared vision for comprehensive integration of technology and foster an environment and culture conducive to the realization of that vision.
Short Range: I will suggest to my team the different ways technology can support instruction using wiki and other resources that I have explored during this class. This would give teachers an insight as to the many resources available.
Medium Range: I would like for training to be offered for teachers to begin using technology in their instruction and have technical support. We have teachers in our building that struggle with technology.
Long Range: My long range plan would be for all teachers to use technology to support their instruction in the classroom. Some examples that they might use are wikis, visual ranking and clickers.
II. Learning and Teaching
Educational leaders ensure that curricular design, instructional strategies, and learning environments integrate appropriate technologies to maximize learning and teaching.
Short Range: I work with a group of reading teachers who teach students that struggle in reading and would like to share resources like wiki and intel education that they may use in their instruction to support the reading program which we currently use.
Medium Range: I would like to take the time to explore in-depth other areas of resources and present to my reading group how to integrate some of them into our reading program. I touched on just a few for example, Thinkfinity and intel/education resources which I feel would be valuable to our program.
Long Range: I would like for all the reading teachers in our building to receive training on the different technology resources and begin using in their instruction to support students learning. If we could meet monthly and share the technology lessons with each other to begin building a list of resources to share with all other staff members. We could share what worked/not worked with our current reading program and the progress students made.
IV. Support, Management, and Operations
Educational leaders ensure the integration of technology to support productive systems for learning and administration.
Short Range: I would like to have funding available to purchase enough technology in our building for all students to be able to use. Also, to have a working system to schedule teachers to use the existing labs we currently have in our school so more teachers are able to use them.
Medium Range: It would be great to give teachers time to share and demonstrate lessons using technology that they have used in their instruction with other staff members. We started PLC's in our building last year and the sharing among teachers has been great. The technology would enhance student learning and achievement.
Long Range: It would be great to have full time technical support on staff to assist teachers with problems and continue with technology training to keep up with some of the new changes.
V. Assessment and Evaluation
Educational leaders use technology to plan and implement comprehensive systems of effective assessment and evaluation
Short Range: I would like to introduce the use of technology using clickers and share the effectiveness of on going assessments to monitor students learning.
Medium Range: Teachers demonstrate the use of technology assessments beginning in the classroom and share with staff.
Long Range: Teachers/students are using technology assessments to evaluate their learning and assist with instruction. They would be creating their rubrics and other assessments using technology.
Strand 3 – Social, Legal and Ethical
What systems and resources do you need in place to ensure that and resources do you need in place to ensure that available technologies support and enhance the learning environment?
VI. Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues
Educational leaders understand the social, legal, and ethical issues related to technology and model responsible decision-making related to these issues
Short Range: I would like for staff to take a short quiz (The copyright Quiz) to introduce the technology polices. I knew some of the policies but not aware of all of them and I feel that we have staff members in our building that are not familiar with them.
Medium Range: I would like to have a staff development meeting on the policies for technology usage in the classroom.
Long Range: For all staff members to be knowledgeable and understand policies for technology usage.
Some questions to consider while you develop you own action plan (set of next steps) to help you lead to effectively integrate ICT into your school.
Describe your greatest strength in helping to integrate ICT into practice in your school
The fact that I have been introduced to wiki and other technology to assist staff in student learning using varies resources in technology. I am able to share the valuable information.
Describe your greatest weakness in helping to integrate ICT into practice in your school
My lack of technology knowledge and vocabulary is not strong. I need time to absorb and practice the new information I have learned.
Describe your greatest “personal” staff development need(s) in the area of ICT
Having the time to keep with the changes in technology, time to practice, and having resource support.
Describe what you believe to be the greatest staff development need(s) of teachers in your school in the area of ICT
Training on how to use technology with instruction and make it teacher friendly.
Technology Tools you want to explore (software, hardware, Web 2.0, etc.)
Web 2.0, wiki, gmail
School resources and support you will need
Funding and technical support to assist staff with issues that arise.
