Exploring Web 2.0

 

First, what is Web 2.0?  To answer this I take a statement from Wikipedia - a Web 2.0 application:

"Web 2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users"

The key words here are creativity, information sharing, and collaboration.

I encourage you to explore more of what Wikipedia has to say on Web 2.0   as a starting point to explore more about the history and characteristics of Web 2.0. It will lead you to may interesting places and topics.

  • A quick survey of Web 2.0 sites - I found this blog site - www.Teach42.com -that does a pretty good job of outlining 10 (and a few more) Web 2.0 sites that educators liked ( and they are all free), also includes some short descriptions.

 

  • Web 2.0 in Education (UK) - This site is designed to provide teachers with a directory of free webtools along with some suggestions as to how they may be used in the classroom.

 

  • http://kathyschrock.net/cooking/- - Kathy Schrock has been providing links to educational resources for many years.  This is her 'icing on the cake' list of 2.0 resources.

 

 

  •  Web 2.0 world- The Computers in Education Group of South Australia

 

  • Web Tools for Educators - This site has more specifice examples of how educators are using Web 2.0 tools. (Susan Brooks-Young)
