The following applications have been recommended by some of my friends who do lots of of training and work with teachers and administrators.

I am looking for applications that have really helped you in the job you do and/or that you have seen teachers use effectively in the classroom?
NOTE: Not all the following may be appropriate for direct student use but may well be appropriate for teacher use as a resource to develop activities for use in the classroom.
Audio/Podcasting/Video creation: (Creativity, Productivity, Self- Direction)
- Audacity (not necessarily Web 2.0 but a favorite for creating poscasts) - Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds
- Gcast - Your own audio broadcast, where you can easily record voice messages, mix in your favorite music, and share it all for the world to hear. Use you cell phone to publish your podcast!
- VoiceThread - A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or phone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam).
- Jing - The concept of Jing is the always-ready program that instantly captures and shares images and video…from your computer to anywhere.
- Animoto for Education - Takes just minutes to create a video. Bring your lessons to life. Post/embed videos elsewhere or download them for in-class presentations!
- Collection of Podcasts from NPR - this is a nice source of podcasts from NPR. This will give you a nice sampling.
- Samples from PBS - this is the source of podcasts from PBS. Take a look, or listen.
Blogs: (Communication, Collaboration, Writing, Reading)
Bookmarking/Tagging: (Information Literacy, Critical Thinking)
- Delicious - All your bookmarks in one place. Bookmark things for yourself and friends
- ikeepbookmarks - One of the first social bookmarking sites, that is easy to use and categorize in folders.
- Self-generating Tag applications
- TagCrowd -allows the user to copy and paste text to create a word cloud of most frequently repeated words in the copied body of text.
- Wordle - creates “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. This application is currently not filtered or moderated and should not be used by students.

- Jott- Capture thoughts, create to-dos and set reminders with a simple phone call
- Skype - You can make calls to phones and cell phones anywhere in the world.

- Bubbleshare - fun way of sharing your photos and the stories that go with them

- SlideShare - share your powerpoint presentations
